Locate Conferences Pty Ltd is being established to run a location-based themed event. This concept has broad-ranging support from the key bodies representing public, commercial, research, education and professional interests within the spatial community in Australia and New Zealand. LOCATE is the name of the new event bringing together a number of annual spatial conferences, including spatial@gov® and the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Conference (SSSC). The event will be held either annually or biennially, with the first scheduled for April 2014. Target audience: Location information can be applied across a broad range of sectors, including health, communications, natural resources, mining, business, land administration, finance, insurance, climate change, space, and more. Essentially, the target audience could literally be anyone who needs an answer to a “where” type question. The audience is broad ranging from senior executive, decision-makers to general users, domain specialists and geeks. People who create and/or use location-based information and services, including thought leaders, senior executives in the private and public sectors, business intelligence, information and communications executives and experts, spatial and surveying professionals, academics, standards experts, etc. While the spatial industry is not necessarily recognised by mainstream communities; spatial information and capabilities are being used by anyone with access to the internet (even if they are unaware of this). People want to know where things are located, how to get from one place to the next. Google has probably contributed the most of any organisation to ‘democratising’ spatial in recent times; and anyone with access to the Internet and mobile devices is using it. The application of location-based information (also referred to as place, geographic and/or spatial) and capabilities can be applied to all sectors; and can be viewed as an enabler; in much the same way as ICT. We are looking to expand beyond our traditional audience to a more mainstream audience (not just an event organised by spatial for spatial professionals).
