Project: "Cholos por el Mar" (Fishermen for the Ocean) is a conservation initiative dedicated to protecting Ecuador’s continental marine ecosystem by empowering local fishing communities. The project bridges the gap between scientists and fishermen, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange and hands-on training. Through workshops and practical training, 50 fishermen will learn basic wildlife medicine and rescue techniques to care for injured marine animals, such as sea turtles, and to mitigate bycatch and ocean pollution. Data collected from interviews with fishermen will contribute to a best-practices guide, strengthening their sustainable relationship with the ocean. A collaborative platform will connect fishermen, scientists, and conservationists to encourage sustainable fishing, reduce bycatch, and enhance the survival of injured marine animals. By combining local knowledge with scientific expertise, Cholos por el Mar aims to create a sustainable fishing model that benefits both marine biodiversity and coastal communities, potentially serving as a blueprint for similar initiatives elsewhere. Target Audience: Primary Audience: Artisanal fishermen along Ecuador’s continental coast, particularly those interested in sustainable fishing practices and wildlife conservation. Secondary Audience: Scientists, conservationists, NGOs, and government agencies focused on marine biodiversity, fisheries management, and environmental education. Indirect Audience: Local communities who rely on fisheries for livelihoods, as well as eco-conscious consumers and supporters of marine conservation initiatives.

    Instructions
Instructions for designing the "Cholos por el Mar" logo: The logo should depict a yellowfin tuna, a symbol of Ecuador's marine biodiversity and richness, integrating elements of pre-Columbian iconography that reflect the connection of local fishermen with the sea and the legacy of these cultures, as heirs to the maritime heritage of the Manteño-Huancavilca, Jama-Coaque, and Valdivia peoples of the Ecuadorian coast. The design should convey dynamism, strength, and closeness to the community, while being easily recognizable and adaptable to different formats (digital, print, merchandise). Maintain the essence and style of the original logo, but optimize the lines, colors, and proportions for scalability without losing quality. Allow application in different sizes and media (T-shirts, caps, social media, brochures, etc.). Details for improvement/suggestions for the designer: Lines and outlines: Clean up any irregular or overly thin lines to ensure the logo looks sharp even at small sizes. Increase the contrast between the main elements (tuna body, fins, waves, or background). Ensure colors are consistent and reproducible in CMYK and RGB. Evaluate a version with more vibrant tones for the tuna and the sea, which visually appeal to fishermen and the general public. Improve the shape of the yellow fin and tail to make them more stylized and recognizable. Maintain anatomical proportions that reflect the movement and strength of the fish. If the logo includes "Cholos por el Mar," vectorize the typography or select a font that is legible, modern, and connected to the local identity. Consider allowing the text to fit around or below the logo without losing legibility. Ensure the logo maintains its impact even in monochrome or reduced versions. Avoid details that are too small to be lost in printing or embroidery. A clean, balanced, and vibrant vector logo that combines the cultural identity of fishermen with the visual power of yellowfin tuna, capable of attracting and connecting with local and regional audiences interested in marine conservation.
