Logo Mashups CoverWhat happens when logos get mixed together? Logo mashups! We take a look at some of the most well done logo mashups and crossovers on the web!

Logo mashups are always interesting to see. They take the most recognizable elements from two logo designs and combine them with varying results. It’s fun to see if you can figure out what two designs are being fused together. It’s a testament to the stronger elements in a design. Can they function out of place and still be associated with the business they represent?

It goes beyond pairing logos together. Plenty of businesses large and small have co-sponsored events and had their logos placed beside one another. I wouldn’t recommend combing them for branding purposes. In application it would dilute your individual brands. Logo mashups are more a “what if…”, just for fun.

The best logo mashups go beyond pairing a famous icon with a just-as-popular typographic logo. Some designers take the time to meld two ideas together, creating something truly unique. Popular logo designs to mashup include sports logos, superhero icons, and video games.

There have been many attempts to create interesting logo mashups. Some just look poorly done. Others are repeats from more pioneering designers. So I’ve gathered together what I consider some of the more well done mashups. I hope you enjoy!

LOGO MASHUPS

Final Fantasy + The Legend Of Zelda
by Shattered-Earth

Final Fantasy / Legend of Zelda Logo MashupsI was always a big Final Fantasy fan, played some Legend of Zelda games, so this one caught my attention pretty quick! Here are two of my favorites from Shattered-Earth’s work. I think the orange Final Fantasy 8 creates an intimate pose for Link and Zelda. I’ve always loved Final Fantasy 7, whose layout lends itself well to the The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. You can check out a few more mashups in the link on the title.

DC Superheroes

Superhero logos mashup

Remember I said super heroes were big into mashups? Two of these logo mashups are from recent trends, while one is more of an easter egg. The screenshot from I Am Legend shows us a concept logo for an abandoned project. The Superman crest is nestled inside of the Batman symbol. Much like the upcoming Batamn v. Superman: Dawn of Justice movie. This one combines the Man of Steel Superman symbol with a fatter, The Dark Knight Returns comic bat-symbol.

And last year we were introduced to The Flash via the WB’s Arrow television show (it’s great, check it out). To celebrate episodes when The Flash and Olive Queen (Green Arrow/The Arrow) would dip into each other’s shows, a fan named Justin (2013venjix) combined their logos in this awesome fan art.

LogoMashups.Tumblr.com

Logo Mashups TumblrSeemingly simple in black and white, this page cleverly combines logos that look like they actually would go together! I put my four favorites up above, you can find many more in the link. My picks were the Nasa/Saturn combo, the Gerber/Gucci combo, and the North Face/Prudential combo. I didn’t even have to look them up. I would love to hear which ones are your favorites in the comments below!

Star Wars Football Helmets
by John Reya

Star Wars NFL Logo Mashups

Not only do these individual logos look amazing, they’re featured on polished helmets! Amazing work by artist John Reya, it’s hard to pick favorites. But I tried. I especially love the style of the Tauntauns logo, beautiful for athletics. You can find many more examples of his work in the links.

NBA+VideoGames & NFL+Disney

NBA Video Game and NFL Disney Logo Mashups

Now this guy is excellent. His Instagram page has quite a few mashups. They range from NBA logos mixed with video game characters, Lord of the Rings sports logos, and NFL logos mashed up with Disney characters. The work is high quality, the characters and logos don’t lose their recognition unlike many attempts I’ve seen.
