UPDATE 2: COLORS and IMAGES (My apologies - I should have made these decisions before posting the contest and/or included this in the first posting. Thank you for your patience!)
COLORS...I have made some general decisions on colors:
1) Background - White
2) Key Logo Colors CHOOSE ONE GROUP for each design submitted:
a) WARM - Red (ruby, maroon, brick red or classic red)
b) COOL - Green (emerald or deep lush springtime greens)
3) Other colors - feel free to use whatever accent colors make sense for the design.
4) Color Notes: If you have submitted designs in other color palettes, don't worry about it. Feel free to resubmit in another color if you wish. When I have narrowed this down to a group of finalists, i will specifically request warm and cool versions of selected designs.
IMAGES...The logos submitted have focused on font-based designs. They look great! I love where this contest is going and am excited to be working with the submissions so far! But, just in case someone would like to go in a different direction, here is a little more guidance:
1) PICTURES:
a) YES - Vines, leaves, trees, apple trees, swirls/spirals
b) MAYBE - Sun, sun & moon, landscapes
c) NO - animals (any), moon (alone), equipment (computer or outdoors)
UPDATE 1: Please remember: 1) the website will be redesigned to match the logo, 2) I will not pursue a red-green combination due to it's association with Christmas (I am not eliminating logos on the basis of color alone, at this point, but I wanted to point that out) 3) please use a WHITE background, and 4) I am an outdoorsy/artsy/bookish kinda gal, I love to canoe, garden, north-woods camp, read, play music (not professionally), participate in social change, etc. I need this design to be professional, but I want it to reflect me. If only one can be selected, I will go with professional/corporate over 'me', but I'm *hoping* to reflect me (just a little).
USES: website, business cards, etc. FUTURE: I hope to follow this up with a web design project using the logo as the basis for the website.
DESIGN NOTES: I tend to visualize my name in red (always have, don't know why) but my website (at this point) is mostly green. As a rule, I prefer soft jewel tones (NOT pastels or neon). As illustrated by current postings, I tend to post a lot of quotes from what I am currently reading and occasional commentary with quotes. On rare occasion I will post an all-out opinion piece. I work primarily in the tech industry and my employers tend to be large conservative corporations. While it is good for everyone to get a sense of who I am (liberal leaning and all), I try to keep the overall presentation simple and professional. This logo (and my website) need to visually represent that effort.
