Matrix Biology Ireland
Matrix Biology Ireland is the Learned Society in Ireland for 'matrix biology' - the study of the extracellular matrix. The extracellular matrix is essentially the biological ‘sticky tape’ for the body. Sometimes it is in the form of tiny ropes, such as collagen, sometimes it is in the form of tiny threads. All these ropes and threads are made from proteins. These things are made by cells all over the body – these cells are often in the form of an old-fashioned spindle, very fine at the end and very fat in the middle. Without an 'extracellular matrix' (these proteins outside cells) we would be a puddle; they are essential for the form of the bodies of all organisms. As a Society, we aim to link anyone who is interested in these aspects of biology from any corner of Ireland.- $300
