- InterMission is a leadership and life course for students adrift in a sea of expectations who are exceptional at fulfilling goals set by others but find themselves too busy to reflect on whether they're the right things to do. Offered at the undergraduate and graduate level. We explore the implications of an erosion of high quality connections with others, how the scarcity of time impedes our ability to think about anything else and the lack of space to reflect on what matters most. We put theory into practice through action learning on a one-week wilderness immersion in Utah's Canyonlands with the National Outdoor Leadership School. Following the Michigan Model of Leadership, this course will challenge you to be more authentic, build purpose-centeredness goal achievement, improve teamwork and collaboration and encourage lifelong experimentation by embracing change and growth.
- Instructions:
- We want to emphasize the name: InterMission. It is defined as a pause or break; an interval between parts of a play, movie /concert or life. We want to play up action learning and wilderness. Evoking a destination and challenge set in nature. Something beautiful. Something simple. Something that creates an "ahhhh." The course is an experience. This isn't something passive. Therefore, we want to invoke nature, experience and action. There's an opportunity to play with the capitalization of the "I" and "M". We'd like to play with the word alone and also how it might fit within nature with artwork. The course is being piloted at the University of Michigan so we'd like to play with the Michigan blue (Pantone 282 C) and maize (Pantone 7406 C) in the design.
