A new academic journal "Global Biosecurity" described below: Quantum advances in science have far outpaced existing governance systems for biosecurity. Of particular concern is dual-use research of concern (DURC), which includes synthetic viruses and genetic engineering of pathogens. This adds a new dimension to preparedness, prevention and response which requires cross-disciplinary approaches to risk analysis, governance and advanced modelling methods. The journal Global Biosecurity focuses on cross-disciplinary research in all aspects of prevention, governance, detection, mitigation and response to epidemics, pandemics and bioterrorism. We publish work on risk analysis, epidemiology, modelling, surveillance, intelligence, prediction, One Health, policy, governance and law, ethics and first responder preparedness. Our editorial board reflects the cross-disciplinary submissions we seek, with editors from health, bioinformatics, law enforcement, defence, law, mathematical sciences and epidemiology. The journal is open access, with no fees for readers or authors. The intended readership is any first responder, policy maker or stakeholder involved in preparedness or response for epidemics, pandemics or bioterrorism. The journal would publish a full issue quarterly, but rapid reports and watching briefs would be continual.
