She taught thousands of children five and younger and their teachers, established the KG teacher training program at Columbia University, and was a staunch supporter of democratic values (self-determination as well as the common good) and taught them to children! Mildred Hill was a classically-trained musician who, in addition to writing melodies for the kindergarten classroom, wrote torch songs, accompanied many singers on piano, and predicted the genesis of jazz/blues.
