Logo Name:
    West Essex Endodontics
    Company Intro:
I am an endodontist. An endodontist specializes in root canal treatment and limits their practice to only that. Our mission statement is kindness matters and I would like to convey that idea.
    Instructions:
I like lowercase. I would like to include my name either underneath or incorporated into the logo. It reads as such:

Michael A. Pallante DMD MS

I like blue and green as colors. It doesn't have to be those colors but I like them.

These are suggestions. I am really interested in something creative but not with too much going on in the logo. Simple but creative.

This is a cross sectional pic. of a tooth that has had the pulp chamber accessed (the opening on the chewing surface) and is being filed for a root canal. The endodontic file is the helically shaped rod inside the canal.

    1. A root canal is necessary when the nerve inside your tooth is dead or in the process of dying. There are a number of different ways this can happen. A large cavity, trauma, a cracked tooth, a developmental abnormality, etc.

    2. When the nerve is dying it becomes very sensitive to temperature and these are the classical symptoms of pain to temperature or sweets or spontaneous pain that people often associate with root canal treatment.

    3. When the nerve has already died, bacteria starts to grow inside the tooth causing what is called a chronic infection. Often, there is no pain associated with this diagnosis. If there is pain, it is usually more associated with biting and percussion of the tooth.

    4. Upon diagnosis, the first step is getting someone very numb with local anesthesia.

    5. A rubber dam is used to isolate the tooth and treatment is initiated.

    6. First, an access opening is created which I think is self explanatory.

    7. Next, the different canals are located and measured. Endodontic treatment is extremely precise. We have to measure to within .5 mm of the root tip. So we often are working in increments of tenths of millimeters.

    8. After determining the length of the root we then clean and shape the canals with instruments called files. Files are tapered instruments with progressively larger tip sizes. We do this for 2 main reasons. First we are trying to create what is called resistance form (creating a stop so the root canal filling does not extend past the end of the root). Also, we r removing any necrotic debris or nerve tissue.

    9. Once instrumented, we sterilize the inside of the tooth by irrigating it with disinfectant.

    10. Finally, we place the root canal filling which is a pink colored material called gutta percha. It is basically rubber which is an inert substance that the body wont react to. We cement that in place with a resin. This is a process called obturation.

    11. After that, we place a temporary filling and the procedure is complete.

I know root canals get a real bad reputation, but often the pain beforehand is where the horror stories come from. When people come to me for root canal treatment, they are often very tense and anxious and emotional. A big part of my job is too show compassion and kindness and try to create an environment of calmness and confidence. I try to spend extra time educating patients so they understand the process and that we can fix the problem with very little discomfort or inconvenience. I am trying to convey that compassion and kindness in my logo.
