Instructions
The word “ILAYS” (which is a Somali) literally means rays of sun that is a natural, moderate or well balanced sun 'light' that every living needs to grow. It is used when in a bit dark place and then sun of light shines slowly the dark. 'Ilays' is not used for any other light. The other unnatural lights in our houses and cities are referred to 'Iftiin' or 'nal' in Somali language. Additionally, the word 'ilays' means 'cozy'. The word “ NABAD” means peace. When the word 'ilays' and 'nabad' are combined in one phrase like 'ilaysnabad' it offers a powerful, hopeful, and inspirational meaning (light of peace).

WE DO NOT WANT in our logo to be included any image of bird because birds are overused globally in peace logos. We want a logo that reflects on the word of “ILAYS” both in appearance and content/substance. We also want a logo that reflects the word “NABAD” as well as our objectives mentioned above. We want a LOGO that instills sense of peace, solidarity and hope for Somali people who have been in a dark time of civil war in the last 25 years.
It was very hard to decide the winner among the last three designers. But after further consultation with the members of "ILAYSNABAD: Dialogue & Development Initiative (IDDI)" most members voted for ABSS design. Otherwise, the two other designers did wonderful job. I would also appreciate all other designers who contested and put their valuable time and effort to win. They all have done great job. All the best for everyone.
