I like logos/designs for TechnoBuffalo, The Verge, Engadget.
Don't be afraid to use a colored background, I prefer not busy, unless something like this (http://9to5mac.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/beta.png) I really love that design, if done right, it could be the winner. But a nice solid blue like this (http://www.48hourslogo.com/project.php?id=24992) would also be nice!
